About me

My love of cooking started at the age of 12 when I used to visit my Granda's house every Saturday and bake for him.  He loved Rock Cakes, Queen of Puddings, Apple Pies and shortbread, all old fashioned fare!  At the age of sixteen I went to Northern Ireland Hotel and Catering College in Portrush.  I lived there for the next two years until I graduated as a chef.  Portrush is a seaside resort which is well renowned for it's ice cream and amusement park.  Every day, on the walk home from college, my two friends and I found it difficult to resist indulging in coffee with whipped cream on top in the local cafe.  Catering College was a great experience which helped develop my passion.

After college, I worked in a few local hotels, restaurants and coffee shops.  Then, I married my husband who is an agricultural contractor and farmer and we went on to have 3 children.  I was fortunate to be able to stay and home and look after my children.  I never gave up on my passion, so continued by taking orders for bakes and cakes from home.  In 1996 I was able to convert the farmhouse into a bed and breakfast, which developed another passion of mine, and I still run it to this day.  I love meeting guests from different countries and share good, Irish homecooking with them as well as get inspiration from their native dishes.

Now, as well as the B&B, I enjoy creating celebration cakes for all occasions. You can find out more information about my cakes and the bed and breakfast by following the links on the home page.
